   This is a quality product, however I encountered and was able to overcome problems using natural gas as a fuel source which I will describe here in great detail. But before I get to the details, I want to explain why I persisted in trying to solve the problems. Most importantly, this is a larger generator than ones sold in box stores and will run my whole house including the 3-ton AC equipped with Soft-Start. It supplies 38 amps running and 47 amps surge. I have $1500 invested in backup, not $20,000 for Generac. This generator, like all generators, has a no return policy so unless I wanted to resell it to someone else, I had to make this one work. Another advantage is that my wife can start and connect it to the house herself as long as she does not have to move it. (It is heavy.) The service centers for Westinghouse do not have a natural gas supply and test only on propane. Natural gas has a lower energy content than propane and gasoline. It is required to replace the spark plug the generator came with (NKG BP7ES) or NGK BPR7ES. The R stands for resistor. The Autolite plug also works. Gap it to the wide gap of the range. It takes a hotter plug to ignite natural gas. There is also a problem with low pressure. The range of the generator for natural gas pressure is .2 to .4 PSI or 5.5 to 11 Water Column (WC). The gas pressure supplied by my gas company is 6 to 7 WC. Westinghouse’s customer service says to have a plumber install a regulator. This will not help! A regulator canreduce pressure, but not raise it. A plumber will tell you a larger supply line is needed, which also will not help. Increased volume will not make up for lack of pressure. The unit comes with a regulator, but it does not regulate pressure, rather it opens a valve when there is a negative pressure in the manifold (engine piston moving). It has a spring tension that can be modified to decrease the vacuum pressure in the manifold required to open the valve. To adjust it, you need to drill out the metal cap on the regulator with a small drill bit. It is pressed in and will come out with the drill bit. This regulator is a safety device to stop the flow of gas when the engine is not running. Make sure to have the gas off when doing the drilling. Turn the adjustment counter clockwise all the way open. Turn on gas and start the generator. Adjust the regulator screw clockwise until the engine starts to run rough, then turn regulator screw counter clockwise slowly until the engine runs smoothly. Go two more turns counter clockwise. The generator will start and run smoothly. If not, adjust more. Check for the smell of gas with generator off and the gas on. You can cap the regulator hole with a wooden dowel. Decreasing the spring tension made the generator run with more power. It took roughly 20 hours of my time to solve these problems. I had my gas company come out and check my gas pressure. I had a plumber come out and give his advice. I talked to companies that supply conversion kits. Each one gave me another piece of information all included in this review that led to solving this problem. My persistence paid off. With this knowledge one can make these adjustments in less than an hour!

   I bought this unit for emergency power for my home. I haven’t put it to that use, and I hope I don’t have to, although I will eventually test it through my circuit breaker panel. But after testing today, I believe this generator is going to do just fine. I read through the manual before doing anything else. Some assembly is required, but not much, maybe 15 minutes. Tools are supplied. This is a heavy generator, so an extra pair of hands will definitely help. Adding oil (included) would be easier with a longer funnel (also included) but it’s not too bad. I had some trouble pairing the remote start key fob to the generator. The instructions didn’t seem to work. I finally did get it working, but I’m not sure how! I ran the unit for an hour on propane, following the startup procedure in the manual. I’m using the propane tank from my BBQ grill. No problem with startup. Recommended break-in time is 5 hours at no more than 50% of the running load. I’m going to run the unit for an hour at a time until I reach 5 hours. I used the two AC units in my RV for the load. That way, the thermostat can cut the load in and out, which is recommended during break-in. The generator handled all the load with no problems noticed. I measured some sound levels using my phone. Here are the average numbers at different distances and taken from all sides of the unit. 1 meter : 83 dB (loud) 10 meters : 68 dB (loud, but not bad) 15 meters : 40 dB (in house, door closed, quiet)

   The generator arrived today, two days ahead of the scheduled delivery date – very impressed. The generator is built well and is very easy to understand and operate even without the User Manual. It started immediately and ran very smoothly and quietly. It wasn’t too loud. . We will be using it to power our fifth wheel RV when we are camping. It fits well in the back of our pick up truck or in the back compartment of the RV. After a lot of reading and research on several other brands of generators, we selected this one and we are very happy that we did. We can’t wait to use it for camping next weekend. We feel that we got a great value for the purchase price. We highly recommend it to anyone who is considering the purchase of a portable generator.

   Was temporarily out of stock but listed for $1066 so went ahead and ordered on the 1st and was delivered on the 26th. Extremely happy with purchase, included wheels, LP w/regulator and natural gas hoses, oil, funnel, tools, trickle charger for battery, remote, manual with parts list. Very easy to assemble after unboxing, I put the wheels on before taking off the pallet, fill with oil and gas, battery was fully charged and ready to start. This will be used mainly for whole home backup generator. There’s a lot of reviews which are helpful and leaving a review gets you a free cover from the manufacturer. Hope this is helpful and touch on a couple things not already said. A few things to keep in mind: Delivery – you must be flexible when setting up a delivery time – this is probably the biggest issue to keep in mind as I’ve read this in other reviews. My delivery went….well, better than expected I guess. CEVA was the freight company that delivered mine, they called and set an appointment for a Tuesday or Thursday in my area at between 10am and 2pm…showed up on correct day before 8am…surprise! The important thing to remember is this item is non-returnable, so it’s important to open box and inspect when they drop off so if something is wrong you can deny delivery. Adding oil – comes with 1.26qt, which is total capacity, it will not hold entire bottle. Add 3/4 of bottle slowly with funnel that’s provided, use a catch pan and keep adding slowly until oil starts dripping into catch pan, should be full at this point and good to run. Mine took roughly 1qt with .26 left over. Absolutely would not take the full bottle of oil. Recommended break in procedure is to run at no more than 50% load for first 5 hours. First oil change is at 25 hours. Recommended gasoline: 87-93 octane with up to 10% ethanol but non-ethanol is recommended. Absolutely no E85 or E15. Noise — it’s a little loud, I didn’t measure the decibel level but mine sets 30 ft away from the house opposite all the bedrooms and I can’t hear it but I still plan on building a 3 sided folding plywood dog house/cover that I can quickly deploy. Keeping in mind it has to “breath”, need good ventilation for CO2 sensor. If you live in the city and have good neighbors close….yea, you’ll definitely piss them off. I was not in desperate need to use the generator right away so I had time to break it in. At first start up I ran it for 30-60 minutes with no load and then hooked up a 110ac compressor pulling 15-20 amps, letting air bleed off so it would cycle every 2-5 minutes. 29 inches outside of the wheels, so it will easily fit thru a 32 inch doorway. 30 inch in length, 26.5 inches tall.
