   This is a convenient but slightly overpriced white-label solar tester. You can find similar (or the same even) testers from this and many other brands at higher capacities and lower cost, as well as with better displays. It isn’t clear at all from the listing what the accuracy tolerances are, or if that differs for different capacity models – I only have smaller solar panels now so this will be fine, but I was wondering if I should just go for the similarly priced but twice the capacity tester, or if at higher capacities the resolution or accuracy wasn’t as good for smaller panels?

   With this handy diagnostic instrument, you don’t have to wait and review the panel output at the solar controller. You can check incrementally check panel voltage and power output parameters easily before connecting to the main system. Readings shown were in the late afternoon on a cloudy winter day with 2 100-watt, 12-volt panels connected in parallel, then to the solar panel tester’s input. No batteries required – this meter relies on getting its internal power from the solar panels. Considering the time of day when I took these photos, I much preferred the display backlight on. One photo shows the LCD display with the backlight off. The only minor drawback I see is that the test leads are short. For field use, making up some longer MC4 to banana test leads would probably be something you’d want. The zipper carrying case with handle is great for protection of the meter and to keep the test leads/instruction book together. This is a very useful tool for verification of panel output, troubleshooting, or aiming panels for maximum power output. Tested unit was the 1800W model. Recommended.

   I have a stack of solar panels which we recovered from a damaged array and this was perfect for checking if they were still functional or not. worked well for checking 400w panels which is what Im working with, but I figured getting the oversized one was a good idea incase I ever get bigger panels. easy to use, put the panel in the sun and hook up for a reading. great if you plan on checking a lot of panels and don’t want to mess with a multimeter setup

   I don’t know my way around solar panels too well, but I’m looking to install a roof array of solar panels to help out with energy costs, and this is one of those needed tools to perform maintenance on the panels. I can’t speak on accuracy yet, but it includes all parts showcased and seems to be good quality.

   I like the versatility of this. Very easy to use. Just plug it into the solar panels and it immediately powers on and begins giving you readings. No batteries needed which is a huge plus. Makes it easy to see how much voltage you are pulling. Which is essential if you have multiple panels. Also good to test out how well you have the panels positioned for maximum wattage.

   The only con is the price. The unit is just plastic with two sets of cables. Seems a bit pricey for only doing one thing.
