This review is for the Tonton brand 300 foot, 10 gauge solar panel extension cable.
This is my new favorite 10 gauge solar extension cable for portable solar systems. I like having the positive and negative wires in one cable. It make it easy to unroll or roll up to put away. The insulation jacket it smooth like a regular extension cord. So dust and dirt cab easily be wiped off. It is flat like Romex, but uses stranded wire.
The obvious downsize is that the insulation will not hold up nearly was well as PV wire with constant UV exposure.

I have three solar arrays at our farm. One on the well house(roof mounted), one in the barn(permanent ground mount), and one that is on a cart for mobility. Not sure why I can’t commit on the third, but its fun to experiment with solar. This 50 foot PV cable allows me to move around my portable solar array when mowing, making changes. In preparation of a storm i can move it to inside the barn. The bright orange color makes it obvious that there is a possibly live wire across the lawn. The wires are well insulated. No fading has occurred in the months of being outside. The MC4 connectors fit perfectly to my disconnect breaker and panels. My mobile array I’m using this on is four 100W panel.

I wasn’t quite sure what I’d be getting when I ordered this but I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. All high quality terminations and over-molded injections at junction points. This is the PERFECT extension cable for outdoor excursions as it has a flat profile and when rolled out stays nicely flat. The orange color is great for safety visibility. The flexibility is good for colder weather conditions so it doesn’t stiffen up so much and is still easy to handle. Great functionality for the price value and an excellent addition to your solar kit–highly recommended!!!

This cable is slightly more expensive than other brands 12AWG cables for the length, but the extra sheathing makes these cable easier to handle and don’t tangle as easily. If you use portable solar panels the bright orange color provides better visibility than your black and red cables especially after dark. If you’re outdoors or at a campsite the black cables are really hard to see at nighttime but these bright orange cables stand out.
I haven’t gone camping with these cables yet because it’s still the middle of winter. Hopefully the campsite will be open this summer, but with all the cuts to the park systems that may not be the case.
The 30 foot length allow you to position the panels away from your solar power station for better visibility to the sunlight.

La section est parfaitement adaptée pour transporter une puissance élevée sur quelques mètres sans échauffement notable ni perte significative. Le câble est souple, facile à travailler même dans des passages un peu serrés. L’isolation est de bonne qualité, avec un revêtement bien épais. Les connecteurs (MC4) étaient bien sertis. TUV NORD certification marking on the connectors in fine print. 300V is the UL rated voltage printed on cord, even though the seller states 500V is well within the range due to insulation and MC4 connectors being rated at around 1000 to 1500V. I’m conflicted due to the congnitive dissonance between the 300V UL certification and the sellers higher voltage claims, but in either way I will be using the cord below the 300V so it should work for my purposes.

This is a well-made moulded cable. It’s essentially a 12AWG extension lead with the conductors separated at each end via moulded sections, with solar connectors crimped onto each conductor. I like that it remains a single cable for most of its length, which helps prevent tangling. I do wish it were 10AWG or larger, but it’ll be excellent for connecting smaller panels when camping or for field use.

I have a solar farm about 25 feet from my power stations in my backyard workshop. I added a new panel and used this cable to make the connection to the power station. It worked perfectly. I like the 10 AWG wire which will minimize any power loss for the run. It is also nice to have the positive and negative wires encased together making running them easier to run. I debated whether to bury this cable since it can’t easily be run in conduit since the connectors are already attached. The specs do not mention if it is rated for underground burial so I ran it along a wood border I had and used cable clips to hold it to the wood. It is outdoor rated and waterproof so I should not have any issues.
