   I bought a generator and everything needed to run my house after Hurricane Ian. I didn’t need this until Hurricanes Helene and Milton tore across Florida. Great products that were easy to install (make sure you know how to work in an electric panel and have the correct wire). Cord plugs right into the generator and into the power box to feed the breaker panel.

   Safety issue. Cable identification on actual item is not what was received. I tried to post a detailed description with pictures but my review was rejected by a m a z o n. The cable is not 50 amp, it is actually 40. It is supposed to be a 6/3 w a single conductor 8 for ground. The actual cable is an 8/4.

   Top quality and fast shipping. Note. Chord plugs are not removable. I needed 10 ft inside to the box and intended to remove a plug and reinstall it on the other 5 feet which would be my gen chord to the box. So I had to go back and order the female plug which I could install. With installation completed and works great.

   After a lengthy outage last May, I decided to get a larger portable generator and to make the installation a little more permanent. I can’t really justify a whole house generator but I do want a manual transfer switch someday. The cable is my main justification for this purchase. The cable is very well made and the connectors appear to be high quality. My plan for a manual transfer switch is on hold because my 1970’s house has only a 100 amp panel that is fully loaded. No room to put in the switch without spending a lot more than I want to spend right now. The junction box will come in handy when I do get the load panel upgraded to 200 amp service. I included a wishful photo indicating where I will install the jbox in the future. Until then, I’ve got a through the wall connection (also available through tugapower.net). I still have extension cords around the house but the house to generator connection is simple and I don’t have cords through windows or doors to worry about. I haven’t had an outage since the installation but everything has performed as planned during monthly generator test runs.

   The cable used in this set is SJTW…. Meaning S = Service, J = Junior (standard service at 300v max. Compared to STW operating at 600v or what is known as hard service), T = Thermoplastic (AKA: PVC), W = Weather (AKA: Outdoor service).

   This extension cable is soft and flexi and very well made. The formed into place connectors are correct and lock properly.

   The entrance box is really nice. It’s formed steel and the craftsmanship is second to none. The electrical connections inside are easy to assess and proper. The closure/lid is hard plastic with a foam insert making this unit nearly water tight. It won’t hold up to being underwater obviously but it will repel a garden hose washing it down….. although I don’t recommend you try this if the box is attached to power from inside…… and it SHOULDN’T either.
