   Quality built conmectors and cable that easily fits right into existing system. I found this extra length useful for adding an extra set of panels some distance away to get around tree shadows and neighbors’s chimney now that sun is lower to horizon.

   Because DC voltages don’t like long distance runs, you need to have a thicker quality cable. As a result it’s a little on the stiffer side but that’s okay, it doesn’t see much of a voltage drop and functions as it should. We’ll see how well the insulation holds up over time but so far this is a good value for short term projects.

   The part you pinch to get them off broke on one as I was connecting. This is not the first set of this type of wires I have used, so I have something to compare them to. They are rather cheap. If I was planning to connect and disconnect repeatedly, I would not want these. They should be okay for a permanent setup though.

   These solar panel cables have an insulation layer and a jacket layer to provide extra protection against the elements and they use a rubberized o-ring to seal out water on both the male connector and on the cable going into the back of each connector. The MC4 connectors are a little different than most MC4 connectors for three reasons: 1. The compression ring on the back of each connector is oversized so you cannot use a standard solar spanner wrench to tighten and loosen the connection (see photo) 2. The female connector has a sealed covering over the clips so you need to use two screwdrivers to remove the male connector from the female connector or a special release tool 3. The o-rings which don’t use any plastic but hard rubberized material so the compression ring is larger in diameter The cables came simply packaged in a plastic pouch and they are a good length 20 feet, each cable was separate – one red for positive and one black for the negative connection. The 10AWG THHN wire is good for roughly 32.5 amperes of current and not the 70A listed on the product page. If you ran 180V which is typical for rooftop solar of ten panels in series you would be running 12KW of power through this cable that’s too much current especially if it’s a warm summer day and the cables are in direct sunlight. I gave the cables four stars because if they were intended for permanent installation then the oversized compression nut isn’t so much an issue or the difficulty on releasing the female connectors, but if you’re planning on using these cables for a portable setup then they aren’t really designed for that in my opinion. The connectors are difficult to release on the female connector, the plastic clips are a little flimsy on the male connectors and could break on repeated use, and the 10AWG is overkill for most portable setups.
