   I have had almost solid overcast days for weeks, and finally had some sun yesterday to really get a look at this panel’s output. I was very surprised to see that I was getting just under 100W out of the panel in late afternoon in the winter when the sun isn’t even at its brightest. Everything is very well sealed up so I was not able to really look at the internal soldering or any bypass diode, but the build quality appears top notch so I’m not highly concerned. I like the flexibility of the panel which should make it less fragile since I intend on installing this on my motorhome. There’s a very high chance I’ll purchase at least another one of these for additional wattage.

   My past reviews got into the weeds a little bit and am not going to do that any more. It really boils down to a few things. First, is how close panels as we use them get to their rated output which is achieved under standard test conditions. Those conditions are difficult to control in the wild where they are normally used. Second is price. A third might be any weak spots in construction/design. Power– This panel produced a steady output of 167 watts which is just under 84% of rated output in full sun. The highest observed value was 172 watt after dribbling cold water on the face of the panel to cool it down. Price– usually in the $1 per rated watt range. At $200, this is relatively normal, but with these higher efficiency panels, you get more value for your money. I suggest looking for deals where the price per watt is <$1 unless some specialty application is desired. Weak spots– I have about 4 of this flex type that get moved around a lot and all have failed where the cables connect to junction box on the front of the panel. I have a 200w portable folding panel with the same type of connection and that failed, too. The connection can be restored by clamping and when applying an adhesive, care must be taken to avoid contaminating the contacts. Note: this is the same type of connection used on rigid panels. It does not fail because of the rigidity of the panel. The potential for failure just comes with the territory with a flex panel. This panel’s size is something to consider. All of these flex panels need some reasonable support to avoid damage. Weight- these panels lend themselves well to transport. Their ETFE coated surface will be durable. Many overlook and fault panels (or the charger) for a lack of understanding of how the state of charge of the battery, especially lead acid, affects the rate at which it will accept charging current. A Lead Acid battery near full charge is not going accept the same charge rate as the same battery that is at <80% charged. So, where you might expect a 10 amp panel to produce 10 amps, that isn’t always going to happen. In my opinion, the most efficient charging use of these high wattage panels is with LiFePo4 batteries where they will charge at maximum capacity of the charger until about 95% charged.
