   On the bench today, I’ve got a Flying Lion 50 Watt Solar Panel 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Panel High Efficiency Module RV Marine Boat Caravan Off Grid (50W Single Panel). The panel works but I haven’t had any particularly good sun days to say what its maximum output actually is. It looks and feels like it’s well made with some quality wire and connectors. Nothing particularly bad to point out but nothing really outstanding either with the rest of it. It was well protected and even has a peel off plastic all around the aluminum frame. I like that it has 10 busbars as generally, the more the better because they can help with efficiency and output. The standard is unfortunately probably still closer to 5 but many manufacturers have moved to 9 or even 10. I feel like this solar panel would be good for those that specifically need a smaller sized and lighter panel. If size isn’t limited, you could get 100w panels for only very slightly more.

   So this solar panel does as it should an seems very well made for the price. It has a bulky full aluminium frame for easy mounting an tempered glass cover for good weather resistance. The power output is also good an opon an initial test using a multi meter before installation it cranked out 26 volts under the winter sun which is very good for a panel rated for a 12v system . It comes with standard solar connectors pre installed for easy installation.So overall I would definitely recommend this panel since it seems very well made an does what it should an given the fact that I have a decent solar system setup at my house this panel is very comparable with some of the bigger more expensive name brand panels I already had in terms of construction an functionality

   tugapower.net’s web page advertised this solar panel as a 50-watt 12v output. This was perfect to run my two 12v attic fans. The panel label said it was a 24v out when I received them. Sure enough, I tested it, and it produced 24 volts. I figured someone in the warehouse screwed up and shipped me the wrong panel, so I sent it back and requested the 12v panel. When I received the second panel, it was also a 24v panel. Why are they advertising a 12v panel but shipping out a 24v panel? I can’t use these for my attic fans because they are rated for 12v, and if I apply 24v to them, they will burn out the motor. Hence, it is a one-star review for false advertising.

   Got this solar panel to play with doing my first battery setup. This is great and at a good price point for me to be able to experiment without breaking the bank. There’s a bit of a learning curve, but I think I got the hang of it. It arrived well, didn’t appear broken and I’m starting to get the hang of DIY solar paneling.

   Decent sunshine has not been in the forecast lately so I will be following up with a power report as today I was getting a total of 6.6W. Looking at the listing I do not see the specifications for the panel so I’ve posted a pic with that, here are the main stats most people would want before purchasing: VoC: 24.59V Isc: 2.51A Temp coefficient VoC: -(0.40+/-0.05)% C Dimensions: 22.83″ x 19.69″ x 1.38″, 7.05 lbs Panel arrived double boxed (product box inside tugapower.net box) and within the product box the panel had an air tube pack to protect it as well as corner plastic reinforcements (Which unfortunately cover some of the cells but could be cut down if you want to leave them on for temp/portable use) Frame is protected by plastic film. Has the feel of a generic panel with a Flying Lion label slapped on it. No documentation or any information beyond the label was in the box. Frame appears to be properly secured to the panel with no play/looseness noted. Silicone sealing on the backside is clean and consistent. Junction box is your typical generic small panel junction box with a single bypass diode. Cell layout appears to be 36 cells in a full series configuration so likely will not perform well if it gets any shading at all.
